GET TO KNOW THE BAR

There’s more to this bar than its name.

Bring a traditional West African cleansing ritual to your bathroom. Because each bar is traditionally handmade, color, texture and appearance vary naturally. No two bars look exactly alike.

No added perfume. A mild, earthy scent. A bar to get to know, one lather at a time.

THE BEAUTY OF KEEPING IT SIMPLE

Three reasons to make room for it.

Traditionally made

Handcrafted in Nigeria using the traditional process that gives authentic African black soap its distinctive rustic appearance.

Nothing perfumed

No added fragrance. Its mild, earthy aroma comes naturally from the ingredients.

One versatile bar

A straightforward cleansing bar for face, body and beard. One less bottle on the shelf.

The best ritual starts with less.

A few things worth knowing.

Does it have a scent?

No fragrance is added. The bar has a mild, earthy scent from its ingredients.

How often should I use it?

Start slowly and see how your skin responds. Our guide recommends up to three times per week rather than daily use. Follow with moisturizer, and reduce use or stop if you notice dryness or irritation.

Should I rub the bar directly on my skin?

Lather it in wet hands or a soft washcloth first. Raw soap can contain small fragments of cocoa pod ash, which may feel rough if the bar is rubbed directly on skin.

How do I keep the bar dry?

Use a well-draining soap dish away from standing water. You can break off a small piece for use and keep the remaining bar wrapped in a cool, dry place.

Why does my bar look different from the photo?

African Black Soap is traditionally handmade, so variations in color, texture, shape and surface appearance are normal. No two bars are exactly alike.

Is African Black Soap supposed to look and feel different from regular soap?

Yes. Its rustic texture, varied appearance and naturally earthy character are part of what makes traditionally made African Black Soap different from a conventional manufactured soap bar.
