Love the smell
After being a devoted fan of the Souks of Morocco - using it as my go-to / daily scent and getting regular compliments, I was a bit disappointed with this new iteration of just "Morocco." Some might not notice the differences, but the differences - even if they may be subtle - are there. This new version opens with a more powdery top note with just a little too sweet....something (the honey maybe?) mixed in. There's also a very noticeable scent of isopropyl at first. It does eventually settle to something closer to the original, but it's still not the same. The longevity/staying power has also suffered with this formulation. I'd been buying Souks since it was launched, but i definitely don't think I'll be buying this one once I'm through it (should've bought the smaller bottle.) What initially hooked me as a long time customer of Hemingway Accoutrements/Barberry Coast was the unique but amazing scents they offered at competitive price. Lately though they seem to be following the late stage capitalist play book, offering declining quality and cookie cutter products (stop trying to imitate, which y'all definitely seem to be doing) at higher pricing. Following that trend - why wouldn't one just default back to designer scents?
Thank you for taking the time to share this, and first, we genuinely appreciate how long you’ve been with us.
I’m sorry this bottle didn’t immediately feel like the Souks of Morocco you’ve known and enjoyed. I completely understand how disappointing that can be, especially when a fragrance has become part of your regular routine.
*One important note: the formula itself has not changed. The name was shortened from Souks of Morocco to Morocco, but the fragrance formula is the same. That said, with freshly made small-batch fragrance, there can be a settling and maturation period after bottling. In some cases, the opening can feel sharper, sweeter, or less blended at first, then smooth out noticeably after a couple more weeks.
My recommendation would be to let the bottle sit for 2–3 weeks and revisit it. I think you may find it settles much closer to the fragrance you remember.
I also hear your broader concern, and I want to be clear that we are not trying to lower the quality or move toward generic, cookie-cutter products. That is the opposite of what Barberry Coast was built on. We’re still owned and operated by Tina and me, with no outside investors, no corporate parent company, and no pressure from anyone telling us to cut corners. I’m still the perfumer and formulator, we still make our fragrances in small batches, and our goal is still to create distinctive scents with character, not chase whatever is easiest or most mass-market.
I really appreciate the honest feedback, even though I’m sorry this first impression wasn’t what you expected. Please give it a little time to mature, and if it still doesn’t feel right after that, reach out to us directly. We’ll do our best to make it right.

Barberry Coast is the best company for fine fragrances. Traditional phthalate-filled fragrances make me nauseous. Barberry Coast’s products are phthalate/synthetic free - you will be able to tell the difference. Wonderful company, great customer service. Stock up today, your arm pits depend on it.
I can’t believe they’re discontinuing this one. I hope they reconsider. It’s a nice and pleasant scent and should continue to be offered.
I’d worn an other absolutely fantastic scent by an other company almost daily, for many years. When I tried the original Signature version that became Barberry’s Finca Vigia, I found the scent to beat all scents. Then I decided to take a shot with Souks of Morocco. Dang…now I’m hooked on both. Thank you for both. Never discontinue them. At least in my lifetime. Please.
when i found the hemingway colognes i fell in love with them and i was surprised that they sold the company but barberry coast is wonderful! im happy they bought hemingway and kept the formulas the same. the only downside for me is the price, thats my issue not barberry coast. i have to save up to buy a bottle. keep up the good work!
This is the scent. My fiancé loves this scent. Great for a night out or if you want to be the one that smells amazing at any gathering. You guys knocked this one out of the park.
Haven't used it yet.
I purchased it because of the note breakdown. I knew I would like it because of those notes. I was correct. It is a nice fall and winter scent that will probably get some wear during the colder cweather. You did a great job with this one. Thank you.
So many appealing and complex notes that blend so well together into this exotic

from 4882 reviewsBeing an old guy, I really enjoy the nostalgia and history of the bay rum scent. The splash on is a refreshing pick me up that is not too heavy, but with the best Bay Rum I've ever found.
Once again Barberry Coast has delivered another home run. The highly evocative scent, sublime face feel and post shave feeling that lasts all day, coupled with very classy packaging and unrivaled customer service with a much appreciated personal touch, is what sets BC apart from the rest. For those who appreciate quality and class, you cannot go wrong with Finca Vigia in your shave den.

Originally had Hemingway and thought it was discontinued. Low and behold they just changed the name. I absolutely love this fragrance. On my 3rd bottle. To me it smells like a hot beach day and I just smoked a cigar while drinking Pina 🍸 coladas all day. I will always have this fragrance in my collection
Nice and refreshing! I don't shave everyday, however, I like a bracing wake up everyday and the Nature Isle fulfills its promise of that childhood barber shop aroma in spades. So splash on!!
Allen and Tina,
I’ve just received my order of Bay Rum after shave splash. The wonderful scent, the amazing post shave face feel, the classy packaging all make for an experience that makes me look forward to shaving. What a wonderful product you have made! It’s quite literally a vacation in a bottle, and I can’t see how you could improve on it! And my dear wife loves it too-so thank you for making such an outstanding product available!

That fragrance (Kingston), although now discontinued, is still one of my favorites at Barberry Coast. Jamaica island’s heritage is a true melting pot, featuring significant East Indian, Chinese, Lebanese, and European influences as Allen & Tina have captured the fragrance notes that define the cultural & heritage diversity—mellow inclusivity in a bottle. I plan to go slow on this last bottle so the experience will last!
The shaving cream makes a great lather and both cream and aftershave splash have a great Bay Rum scent.
great product. love the aroma. great serbive too
I love every product from barberry. aleays delightful with quick delibery
An absolutely captivating scent complemented by exceptional performance. This shaving soap and aftershave duo delivers a refined, luxurious shaving experience from start to finish.
This Bay Rum is definitely one of the best. Beautiful scent, and lasts pretty much all day. This pocket-size dispenser makes it a wee bit more affordable and when there is a rare sale, I try to add another bottle. Well done, indeed!
Barberry Coast fragrance’s can’t be duplicated they are sophisticated, adventures, exciting, comforting and spicy. Barberry Coast products take you around the world to exotic places and only coast the price of a fragrance.
